Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Data Modeler – Insurance Lakehouse with deep expertise in data modeling across conceptual, logical, and physical layers for modern data warehouse and lakehouse platforms. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in Databricks/Delta Lake, dimensional modeling, and the Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance domain. This role requires close collaboration with business SMEs, data engineering teams, architects, and reporting teams to design scalable, business-aligned data models that support enterprise analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse solutions.
- Develop optimized dimensional models for Databricks/Delta Lake, including star schemas, conformed dimensions, Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD), partitioning strategies, and naming standards.
- Define business and surrogate key strategies, historization approaches, reference data structures, and data governance standards.
- Translate business requirements into build-ready artifacts, including DDLs, model diagrams, and source-to-target mappings, while reviewing engineering implementations for model accuracy.
- Manage model versioning, impact analysis, change control, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, BI teams, governance teams, and offshore development teams to ensure scalable, high-quality data models aligned with business requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- 12–15 years of overall experience, including 6+ years of dedicated experience in data modeling across conceptual, logical, and physical layers.
- Strong expertise in Dimensional Modeling (Kimball Methodology), including conformed dimensions, fact tables, Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD), hierarchy modeling, and integration-layer (3NF) modeling.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, or similar cloud-based lakehouse platforms.
- Strong understanding of Spark optimization concepts, including partitioning, joins, merge strategies, and file optimization.
- Extensive experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance data modeling, including policy, coverage, claims, premiums, reinsurance, and party/role models.
- Proficiency with data modeling tools such as erwin, ER/Studio, SqlDBM, or PowerDesigner.
- Strong SQL skills for data validation, analysis, and model prototyping.
- Experience working as a client-facing lead while coordinating with offshore engineering teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Unity Catalog, Microsoft Purview, or Collibra.
- Knowledge of ACORD or other insurance industry data models.
- Exposure to actuarial data marts, semantic modeling, graph modeling, or dbt model governance.
- CDMP or equivalent Data Management certification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
