Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled IBM MQ Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our architecture team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing, designing, upgrading, and supporting IBM MQ infrastructure modernization initiatives, including migration to IBM MQ v9.4. This role requires deep expertise in IBM MQ administration, architecture, high-availability configurations, and enterprise messaging environments, along with strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in IBM MQ Administration (v7.x, v8.x, and v9.x)
- Experience upgrading and migrating IBM MQ environments to version 9.4
- Hands-on experience with Queue Manager creation, backup, restore, and recovery
- Expertise in Multi-Instance Queue Manager configuration and management
- Experience with Queue Manager migration, including:
- Queues
- Channels
- Listeners
- Strong understanding of shared storage configuration for high-availability environments
- Experience in production cutover planning and execution
- Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination abilities
Key Responsibilities
- Review and validate architecture and design documents
- Lead IBM MQ upgrade and migration activities to version 9.4
- Migrate Queue Manager configurations, including queues, channels, and listeners
- Reconfigure standalone and multi-instance Queue Managers
- Validate and support shared storage configurations for multi-instance setups
- Execute production cutovers while ensuring minimal business disruption
- Support pilot testing activities and document lessons learned
- Perform Queue Manager administration, backup, recovery, and maintenance activities
- Assist architects with technical documentation, presentations, and solution reviews
- Provide technical guidance and best practices for IBM MQ infrastructure
- Coordinate with stakeholders, infrastructure teams, and application teams throughout the migration lifecycle
- Identify risks and execute controlled production changes in accordance with governance standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 10+ years of overall and relevant experience in IBM MQ administration and architecture
- Experience working in large-scale enterprise messaging environments
- Strong understanding of high-availability, disaster recovery, and infrastructure modernization strategies
